Day 5 – Find God’s wisdom

Proverbs 8:33-35 – Hear instruction and be wise; do not refuse it. Blessed is the man that hears me; watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me shall find life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord. (NKJV)

Four words from today’s scripture summarize how we hear God speak to us: watch, wait, find, obtain.

To “watch” means to be alert, attentive and expectant. By praying together, we encourage and inspire one another to attentively seek the Lord, eagerly expecting His response.

To “wait” means to guard, protect and preserve. By praying together, we create a safe doorway/space for everyone to hear God in whatever manner He chooses to speak to us.

To “find” means to acquire. By praying together, we acquire a greater desire and ability to hear God, “finding life” in the words that He speaks and the answers He provides.

To “obtain” means to successfully secure. By praying together, we experience God’s “favor” (delight, pleasure, and blessing) as we seek Him and obediently respond to His voice.

Daniel Henderson succinctly describes this process in his book Transforming Prayer: “Paul reminds us that when we pray together and bear collective witness to His answers to prayer, God receives greater thanksgiving. Our thanksgiving is greater because we have prayed together.” (TP, 196-197)

“Corporate prayer opens up your heart to the needs of others,” adds Fritz Chery. “Not only does it bring encouragement, repentance, edification, joy, and the feeling of love among believers, but it shows togetherness and the body of Christ working together, submitting to the will of God.” (PTFC)

Pray this prayer today: “Lord, thank you for the blessing that is ours when we gather to hear Your voice. Help us in prayer to watch, wait, find and obtain the life and favor you bestow upon Your people. Grow us in our desire to hear You, even as we create a safe space to do this together. Finally, help us to obediently respond, like Christ, to Your wisdom and instruction. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
